Welcome to the Paw of a Bear Z Scale Gallery

Here you will find photographs of my Z-scale structures and dioramas for model railroads. Some are still for sale. Others have either been purchased by private collectors or found a home on one of my model railroads.

These 1:220 scale buildings are hand made by me.  Some are completely scratch-built; others use my own line of laser cut parts.  All are exceptionally detailed.

Although I do not exactly duplicate any of my dioramas, I am certainly willing to build something similar for you. In addition to custom scratch-building, I also offer kit building services. You buy the kit; I build it for you.

Please contact me to arrange any custom building that you might need.

Ranch House with Two-Tone Coupe

The Stewarts call this dear little ranch style house "home". Things have been going well. Jim got home from the war and put himself through school with money from the GI bill. Now he's got a good job and a snazzy new car. Pretty soon he and Sally will start thinking about starting a family in their perfect suburban neighborhood.

This Z-scale model railroad diorama features a Paw of a Bear laser cut Ranch House kit, full scenery - shrubs, a deciduous tree, and a well manicured lawn. The model comes with a two tone Blue and Tan MakeMyModel coupe.
Ranch House with Blue and Tan Coupe
Price $99.99

Mrs. Candace Trupenny, a young widow, teaches drama at the local high school. First thing she did upon moving into her new home was to plant a crepe myrtle, one of the pink one. Sometimes she scandalizes the neighbors by putting her top down, the top of her coupe, flipping back a seat and sunbathing in her driveway. Funny how many teenage boys vie to mow her lawn in the summer.

A custom built ranch house from the Paw of a Bear Z-scale laser cut kit. The ranch house features full scenery- a bushy evergreen tree, flower beds, and shrubbery. The model comes with a blue hand painted Make My Model pickup truck.
Ranch House with Blue Pickup Truck
Price $99.99

Joe D'Plumba bought this house because of the quiet neighborhood. Then all those folks started moving in with their rowdy kids and yapping dogs. If this keeps up the neighborhood won't be the same. Joe's thinking they should start some sort of watch to keep an eye on those darn teenagers and he figures that if he has to yell, "Stay off my grass" one more time he might just explode.

A Z-scale mode house diorama of the Albion, a Sears kit house from their 1926 catalog. This 1:220 model is a lively yellow with contrasting black trim. A sedan sits in the drive. An old pile of tires is piled by the garage. Perfect for model railroads.

Harry met Sally and they hit it off. Being young and in love, the bought an old fixer-upper without thinking of the consequences. Years later the house is a showplace. Too bad that Harry can't stand Sally and vice versa. Que sera sera.

A wide angle shot of a Z-scale model farmhouse. It is a white clapboard building topped with a black metal roof. A stone chimney leans against one end of this two up two down style house. Perfect for a rural setting on a model railroad layout.
Red Dirt Farm: The House
Price $199.99

The Browns have worked this farm for generations. The old house is a standard two up two down and it is getting a little cramped for the family. Joe is thinking about adding on a couple of rooms. Dora agrees that she could put up with the chaos in exchange for a room in which to quilt. The boys just want separate rooms. Josie, the youngest, is dying for her own bathroom.

A Z-scale red barn with tractor shed, fenced paddock, cows, water troughs, and cow pats all ready for your Z-scale model railroad layout or curio cabinet.
Red Dirt Farm: The Barn
Price $199.99

Little Jo and Earnestine don't know it but they're being fattened up for the Browns' table. Every year, Joe Brown lets Joe Jr. cut out a couple of heifers for his FFA project and for the county fair. Joe Jr. takes real good care of the cows. He's won a blue ribbon the past two years.

A battered old sea-side structure in Z-scale. The two story building looks like it has been pounded by the weather for years. Half the wall is covered in fishscale shingles. The corrugated roofing is covered in verdigis.
King Seafood Pier
Price $199.99

The King Family prides themselves on supplying the freshest seafood available in the big city. In order to get their fish to shops in the city with speed, they have invested in piers and packing houses up and down the coast. Keep your eye out for their billboard reefers riding the rails on the express train!

A battered old sea-side structure in Z-scale. This little warehouse sits high up on weathered pilings. A scratchbuilt crane on the deck lets the Ravenwoods lower and raise goods from boats. A stair leads down to their boat dock.
Ravenwod Mfg Pier

The Ravenwoods have their fingers in every pie". At least that's what most folks around here say.  Given the ships, the boxcars, the factories and warehouses, the streets named in their honor, folks might have a point

A Z-scale cafe with a park and massive statue. Perfect for a 1:220 model railroad.
Sunrise Cafe
Price $199.99

In the little town of Cooper's Corner, Colonel Cooper was a big deal.  His statue dwarfs Cooper Park but the flowers are pretty and the Sunrise Cafe next door serves a mean brunch.

The Norwood based on a Sears Kit House
Price $249.99

Mr. Jones bought the plans through the mail. The piles of wood arrived. The nails. The hardware. The trim. He sorted it all out; color coded every stick; and set to building. It wasn't after he finished up that he asked Harriet Juniper to be his bride. She said "Yes" and he was carrying her across his threshold pretty quick thereafter. Now they've got kids, a car, and a clothesline. Home Sweet Home.
