HO "Rite of Passage" Diorama
A diorama by Paw of a Bear
Johnny swore that the cigars were smooth and mild, just what you needed to be a man. Jimbob took to them like a fish to water. Jackson, not so much. Of course this pleased Fido, but he's always up for another meal, even a second-hand meal. Sold to a private collector.
I started with a Kingmill "Danny's Barn" Kit. I added lots of weathering to the siding, the roofing, and the window castings. Then I added many of my own details including the following:
- rusted roofing made from wine bottle foil
- Silkspan tarpaper underlayment
- rusted corrugated metal patches
- an enamel Five-O sign
- a tarp-covered pile of junk
- a barn cat prowling on the beams inside
- a hand made ladder to the loft
- cans on a shelf visible through the window to the tack room
- lots of Silflor weeds
- hand made ladder/stair into the barn
- hand-repainted Woodland Scenics horse grazing
- a hand-painted Prieser hound dog
- three customized and hand-painted Woodland Scenics figures complete with cigars
- the cigars have ash on the ends
- realistic vomit -- the wages of sin
- a hand-made tree from DC RAIL & HOBBY DEPOT
HOBarn Special Diorama The model sits on a 6" by 6" fully sceniced 1/8" Gatorboard base. At the tallest point, the tree top, the diorama stands about 6" tall from the bottom of the base. I used Woodland Scenics and Silfor products, basswood, styrene, Bristol Board, local rocks and dried plants to create this one of a kind diorama.
WARNING! This is a scale model and is not suitable for children. Small parts and white metal castings.
