Not so long ago little country stores dotted the United States. Folks came to these stores to pick up their groceries, their mail, and stuff they'd ordered from the Sears and Roebuck Catalog.
I started with an HO Scale Kingmill "Nella Country Store" Kit. I added lots of weathering to the siding, the roofing, and the window castings. Then I added many of my own details including the following:
- super-detailed rusty old pickup truck
- baskets of vegetables and fruit
- suggested store interior
- fat birds up on the roof (pigeons?)
- a tarp-covered pile of junk
- chickens scratching in the yard
- scratch built telephone/power poles with scratch built transformer
- a hand painted Woodland Scenics toolshed
- weathered pile of old boards
- crumpled old tarp
- three hand made trees
- a realistic dirt road
- a garden hose in the garage
- assorted cans sitting on the framing in the garage
- a cardboard box full of trash
- assorted vintage signs
HO Scale Country Store Diorama The model sits on a 7 1/8" by 12" fully sceniced 1/8" Gatorfoam base. At the tallest point, the top of the power poles, the diorama stands about 5" tall from the bottom of the base. I used Woodland Scenics and Silfor products, basswood, styrene, Bristol Board, local rocks and dried plants to create this one of a kind diorama.
WARNING! This is a scale model and is not suitable for children. Small parts and white metal castings.
